Lake Sinclair  was built in 1953 when Georgia Power Company completed the Sinclair Dam. It is located along the fall line of Middle Georgia's Oconee River and has provided electricity for many Georgians. The water in Lake Sinclair is not only used to produce electricity at the Sinclair Dam, but is re-circulated to Lake Oconee during low demand. During peak demand, it is used once again to produce electricity.

Lake Sinclair has approximately 15,330 acres of water and over 400 miles of shoreline. It is a lake of many coves and inlets as well as long stretches of open water. It is fed by the waters of the Oconee River, Little River, and many large creeks. The houses along the shores range from large permanent homes to weekend retreats

Recreation areas on Lake Sinclair include camping areas, public fishing, boat ramps and picnic facilities. Many fishing tournaments are held every year from nationally recognized fishing tournaments to smaller local tournaments. Lake Sinclair is an outdoors man's paradise that offers something for everyone in the family!

Milledgeville It probably doesn't get any more Antebellum than Milledgeville -- Georgia's state capital between 1804 and 1868. The state legislature formed Baldwin County in 1803, which makes 2003 its Bicentennial and Milledgeville became the first permanent state capital. Much of the city was built between 1803 and 1825, and one of the finest symbols of that period is The Old Capitol, which reopened in the fall of 2000, after two years and $10 million in renovation work

Preservation of the building was spearheaded by Georgia Military College, which occupied the building since the school was chartered in 1879. It was earlier visited by the Marquis de Lafayette in 1825 and while both the Capitol and city were vandalized by Sherman's troops in 1864, the Capitol was not burned. By 1865, nearly 30,000 Union troops occupied Milledgeville.

A Georgia Main Street city, Milledgeville consistently has one of the highest per capita income averages in central Georgia. Because of its central location and historic district, visitors are drawn from all over and it's estimated the city draws 150,000 shoppers from within a 30 minute travel radius. The city is 100% committed to revitalization of the entire downtown area and is currently undergoing extensive restoration work, including a renaissance-in-progress of the Old Governor's Mansion. Work is now nearing completion on this home of ten early Georgia governors. So if you go visiting anytime soon, please pardon the dust!

There's a lot more to Milledgeville than historic architecture and eye catching curb appeal. For instance, the more than 60 civic and non-profit organizations, offering a place for everyone to find their service level and sense of belonging. Baldwin County has a standing reputation for an outstanding level of volunteerism, including such noble pursuits as Habitat for Humanity and the Special Olympics. Forward Baldwin, a local organization founded in 1995, is a coalition of grassroots-level leadership devoted to identifying problems and issues in the community and then going about solving them.

Occupying just 268 square miles of Georgia's nearly 60,000 square miles, Baldwin is well beyond Atlanta's sprawl. One of the state's smaller counties, it is centrally located and conveniently close to just about anything most people would ever want. Home to right at 44,787 residents, it is an ideal location for anyone seeking the best of "Main Street USA," with a dash of fine country-living thrown in. As the county seat, Milledgeville is centrally located in Baldwin County and is home to about 19,000 residents. The city is within easy daytrip reach of Macon, Savannah, Atlanta and Augusta.

Recently cited as the "cleanest lake in the South," Lake Sinclair is a 15,330-acre recreational reservoir, fed by the Oconee and Little rivers. Situated a few miles north of Milledgeville, it's a Georgia Power owned lake, with 417 miles of shoreline boasting marinas, campgrounds, water-skiing, lakefront dining, and just about every form of water sports one can enjoy. Of course the lake also provides surrounding communities with water and power. Created in 1953, Sinclair is said to be inhabited by some of the world's biggest largemouth bass and is the scene of both regional and national trail tournaments.

Eighteen challenging holes, designed by PGA champion professional Gary Player, are close at hand at Little Fishing Creek, not far from downtown. The public course is open to daily fee play. While a little north of town, along the lake shoreline, not far from the Sinclair Dam, Milledgeville Country Club overlooks beautiful Lake Sinclair. Housing styles around the big lake range from weekend retreat to waterfront mansion and one should enlist a Realtor for professional guidance concerning value, cost, zoning ordinances, and other such important issues. We will be updating this county's housing and land costs in the very near future.
